Lucky

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for me. As you all know by know, I was in a serious car accident on Aug. 16th in Macon, GA on my way from a wedding in the Atlanta Temple on my way to the reception. I had a dislocated hip, a gash on my forehead and upper eye lid, several fractures in my neck vertebrae, and a severe concussion. And I'm really lucky I came out with just that. I was in the hospital for five days, four of which my sister Lindsay was there with me in Georgia. Since flying home from Georgia I have been staying at my parents' house in Centerville. Lindsay has documented a lot of it on her blog: queenlou.blogspot.com

I remember waking up in the car right after the accident happened, very first of everyone one. I had been napping for a lot of the car ride so at first when I woke up I thought, "Wow, I slept really wrong, that was a bad nap!" I looked through the windows and saw that we were in the median and they saw Nicole and Kaleo unconscious. I started feeling the full pain of everything and saw blood on Nicole and around the back seat. I started to feel really nervous and asked Loren, the driver, to say a prayer for us. A woman who was an off-duty paramedic stopped to help us while the police and ambulance arrived. I heard her say to the cop that the guy in the back seat was dead and the girl next to me had really shallow breathing. I was stunned but my brain just decided to shelve that until I got more information. They used the jaws of life to cut me out of the car and pulled me out and into the ambulance. They drove me to the Medical Center in Macon. I remember them asking me a lot of questions and thinking if they could just move my leg it would feel so much better. They cut my clothes off me and put 4 or 5 blankets on me. Some one told me they were going to put me out to put my hip back into place and I was okay with that. I woke up with this guy stitching my face up. I think they put me in ICU for the night for observation. The groom's brothers came as soon as I was stitched up and gave me a blessing. Then several people came to visit me including friends from the wedding party, the bride and groom, the local relief society president who stayed with me several hours taking care of me, and later in the night, Jono who found gas money to drive 3 hours to stay with me a few days. I talked to my mom, dad, and brother on the phone several times as well. The next morning they put me in a regular room and I was told Lindsay would be there latter that day to take care of me. And she did! She did everything I asked her too and ten times more. She was super human and I will never forget her kindness and unselfishness. She earned her entrance into heaven for what she did! And I was SO glad that Jono came. He took care of me and sang to me and gave me a couple of blessings. I was so so so glad he came!

Since coming home from the hospital my family, most especially my mom and dad have all done a ton of things to help me. I have been so pampered and taken care of. Thank you so much, family! And thanks to everyone who helped me. You are not forgotten I am just taking too much time on the computer.

Every step along the way, there was someone there watching over me, holding my hand, praying for me, blessing me, and taking care of me. I know that my Heavenly Father and Savior were with me the whole time and I have seen them in many faces and hands that have come along. I have never been alone. I have seen a lot of kindness and unselfishness from so many people on my behalf.

Oh Carly, it makes me feel better to read your report first hand. Your positive attitude in the face of great trauma has strengthened most of us. Many have been blessed by having the opportunity to give service...we all have to take a turn or two as receivers. I love you and am glad you're on the road to becoming mended. ox

Carly, this comment was left on my blog and meant for you:

Hi, I'm a friend of Carly's from high school that happened to stumble across your blog. I noticed that she has her own blog set on private, but I was hoping you could tell her hi and that I'm glad she's going to be ok. It would be great to hear from her sometime down the road when she's well enough and hops on her blog. Thank you! (by the way, my name is Jen Hagen)

wow carly,
this many months later, i read your blog, and am brought to the same emotional place i was in in august when i first found out this had happened. in SUCH a short period of time, you had a profound effect upon my life, because, as a member of this new church full of so many mysteries & questions, you were a shining example of what it means to be CHRIST-LIKE, & just a genuinely good person. i loved staying there, & am so glad such a positive impression was made for me of utah, slc, the church, etc. (not to mention randomly/getting MARRIED while staying at your house-you're good luck!!) . i keep you & the girls in my prayers & wish you only the best! sincerely,
:) candy t. (using josh's sign in, as the computer won't recognize mine!:)
