Remember when you were a kid and you favorite thing ever was that little cartoon show you watched Saturday morning with your bowl of Lucky Charms? Or those mixed tapes you made of your favorite radio songs? Or licorice ropes you snacked on while watching a movie at the dollar theater?
I was thinking today about how I still have little things like that now that make life just a little more fun.
- Fuzzy socks from my mom. In the past 6 or 7 years, my mom has given me a pair of quirky, "decorative" socks for many holidays, like Valentine's Day, Halloween, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, and others. They are too thick or silly to wear with shoes or outside of the house. However, I have chronically cold feet and wear socks most every night. It's the adult version of a teddy bear or a wubby.
- Cereal. I have a huge crush on cereal. I eat it everyday and sometimes twice a day. I'll eat handfuls of it for snacks. When I was younger, I would occasionally fill a big salad bowl full of cereal and eat it for breakfast because I couldn't get enough. My favorites are the kind with some sort of dried fruit, like raisins or cranberries or blueberries. Mmm....
- Nutella. I am always finding new and creative ways to eat Nutella. It is the gift that keeps on giving.
- Watching QVC or HSN. I have never ordered anything on there and I never plan to, but I am so thoroughly entertained by the whole spectacle. When I lived in Salt Lake with the Qdub and the mermaids, we would select random items in the house and give our own product pitch to each other ala QVC style. We got so good at it and could maintain our excellent quality presentation for obscene amounts of time, so much so that a few of our roommates put a ban on QVC'ing in front of them. Their loss.
- Listening to sugary teenage pop songs. It brings me back to the junior high/high school days. Many of them are overly cheesy and sentimental but clean and innocent. Sometimes, I really like that.
- Frozen yogurt at Maverick. Oh, it is oh so yummy and it's low or no fat so you don't have to feel so guilty about it. Do you notice a pattern in many of these things revolving around food?
- Watching HGTV with my mom. My mom has poor health and has to spend a lot of time resting. One of my favorite things is to lie down next to her and watch Designed to Sell or Curb Appeal and give our expert opinions to the folks on the television. They don't always listen, to their detriment--of course.
What are some of your favorite things?
